Welcome to Islington Liberal Democrats

Your Party for Islington North and Islington South and Finsbury

A Fairer Islington

Welcome to Islington Liberal Democrats. We are a group of local activists and campaigners who are working to make Islington a fairer, safer, greener and more prosperous borough.

Liberal Democrats choose Vikas Aggarwal as their candidate for Islington North

“It is a huge honour to be chosen as the Liberal Democrat candidate here in Islington North. Together, we will work to challenge a divided Labour party. A Labour Mayor, a Labour Council, and formerly a Labour MP, has driven complacency. Islington deserves better than crumbling and unaffordable housing, dirty streets, and rising crime. For too long, Labour have taken Londoners for granted.

“Meanwhile the Conservative Government has destroyed our economy, trashed our environment, sent children to unsafe schools, and driven up our NHS waiting lists. No more. The Liberal Democrats will stand up for local people in the face of a cost-of-living crisis; we will secure better access to public services; we will work to create safer and stronger communities; and we will fight the lasting damage of a disastrous Brexit deal. The Islington people deserve better.”

Terry Stacy

Liberal Democrats choose Terry Stacy as their candidate for Islington South and Finsbury

“I am honoured to be chosen as candidate for Islington South and Finsbury. Our vibrant borough offers so much but suffers from deep inequality in housing, a higher crime rate than many other London boroughs and a decaying physical environment.

"As a social housing tenant myself I am particularly focused on improving social housing and the lives of tenants and renters in both the social and private sectors.

"We have been let down by a complacent Labour Mayor, Council and MP. Having a single party in power in Islington at all levels below national government leaves little room for fresh thinking.

"At a national level everything the Conservative Government touches gets worse. Despite having nothing to offer they refuse to call a general election and are hanging on in the hope that something will turn up for them. I will campaign for Islington residents to get a better deal whether from the economy, from our NHS and schools and in improving our relations with Europe and the wider world.”

Rebecca Jones

Islington Liberal Democrats Select Rebecca Jones as their London North East constituency candidate for the London Assembly

“Islington is a place that’s truly special, its diversity has made me feel welcome. London has a huge amount of young and LGBTQ+ people and I think it’s crucial we have candidates like me, representing different ages and backgrounds on the GLA.

“I am proud to represent the Liberal Democrats because they have proved themselves to be on the right side of history on so many issues that matter to me, like LGBT rights and fighting for working people.

“London should be a city where if you work late you can still get home. Sometimes my job finishes past midnight and the lack of buses and tubes at that time can make me feel unsafe as I travel home. The Mayor needs to take action to tackle violence against women and girls. If elected, I will campaign passionately on both these issues.”

Islington is one of the most vibrant and diverse boroughs in the country. However it faces great challenges: inequality, crime, pollution and poor quality housing are among the most pressing.

Without change the United Kingdom, London and Islington face a poorer future. Islington Liberal Democrats have a positive vision for an Islington where all communities can live a good life, with the Council getting the basics right, delivering better transport, affordable and high quality homes and a cleaner, safer borough.

Nationally and locally our members work for a fairer voting system so that everyone's voice is heard, rebuilding our relationship with the European Union to reverse the negative effects of Brexit, and tackling climate change so that our children have a future.

We hope that you will be inspired to join us to fight for a fairer Islington.
