Our summer of campaigning for a final say on Brexit culminated in an Exit From Brexit Action Weekend featuring a Brexitometer, gauging local support for a People's Vote.
On 8th and 9th September 2018, our local activists were campaigning at Angel, Finsbury Park and Highbury Corner, and heard the concerns of hundreds of people about the Brexit deal (or no deal).
Our activists collected well over 600 signatures for our 'Final Say' petition, which will be delivered to local MPs and the local Council together with the Brexitometers. These eye-catching and conversation-starting boards overwhelmingly indicate, in the opinion of those we met, that:
- Brexit is not going well;
- Brexit will not be good for the economy/jobs;
- Brexit will not be good for the NHS;
- Brexit will not provide benefits for Islington residents and businesses; and
- People should have a say on the final deal.
It is clear that those we met favour a referendum on the final Brexit deal, with an option to remain in the EU.
The results are provided below.
Islington citizens are proudly European, and the Liberal Democrats are their true voice in politics.
The Islington Liberal Democrats would like to thank all of you who joined us and we look forward to seeing you at some of our other action events in the near future, including the People's Vote march on 20 October 2018.
