Islington Liberal Democrats agree with Labour for ditching the disgraced MP, Emily Thornberry from the shadow cabinet as a result of her offensive Tweet that she posted whilst campaigning in the Rochester by-election on Thursday. She has been widely criticised for sneering at voters with this Tweet which is being hailed as evidence of the disconnect between Labour and its former supporters. At best her Tweets yesterday were crass and insensitive, at worst sneering and out of touch.
Terry Stacy, Islington Liberal Democrats Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Islington South and Finsbury has a track record of working hard for local residents, which was recognised in 2011 with an MBE for services to housing in Islington.
"Emily Thornberry has shown herself and Labour as a party of 'champagne socialists', residents are extremely disappointed, for someone who has boosted about "her working class roots" we now see her true colours, not only is she out of touch with a large number of her our constituents, she is playing into the hands of UKIP. She should be offering a decent alternative to UKIP's scare mongering, instead we see her causing offense to hard working, patriotic residents. Islington deserves better than a party which just takes them for a ride."
Islington Liberal Democrats are proud of the diverse makeup of Islington and will continue to work and campaign on behalf of all local residents.
