Islington Council must use camera filters to give local car owners access to their local streets
Our streets are for the benefit of all residents. Low Traffic Neighbourhoods(LTNs), poorly introduced with insufficient consultation, must avoid setting pedestrians, cyclists and motorists against each other.
A thoughtful and broadly supported LTN scheme has the real potential to reduce car usage and improve air quality for the benefit of everyone. See our three-point plan to sort out the mess.
A proper consultation with residents is required but in the meantime action to reduce the problems we see on our roads is required now.
The Islington Liberal Democrat's answer is this: instead of being only for emergency services, existing and future camera filters should use automatic number plate recognition(ANPR) to allow residents easy access to their own street. Non-resident driving – the notorious "rat run" – can still be stopped.
Our petition to Islington Borough Council
" Too many people are having to take long, circuitous car journeys simply to reach their own homes. This defeats the whole point of Low Traffic Neighbourhoods. We call on Islington Council to use street camera filters to allow residents to access and park on their own street."
We will include your name and address when submitting the petition to Islington Borough Council.
