A recently leaked 150 page document showed that Labour are putting together proposals to axe half of Islington’s libraries, including Mildmay Library. This fantastic resource serves all in the community, especially those who are most disadvantaged.
The library provides free internet access for those who do not have it at home. According to one resident, the IT equipment and internet access in the Mildmay library is literally her lifeline to be able working on her CV, develop her IT skills and apply for jobs – many of which now will only take online applications.
Yet, whilst Labour were happy to pose for pictures at the announcement that our borough’s libraries were part of the fight against knife crime in Islington, at the same time the they were also proposing to axe six of them. Islington Lib Dems are calling on the Labour run council to drop these propose closures and save our libraries.
